My path to front-end development and graphic design is not the
typical one. I grew up listening to my mother play Beethoven,
Debussy, and Rachmaninoff on the piano. That music filled my heart
and soul and I wanted to create beautiful music just like her. While
I love the piano, I decided to study the bassoon—a notoriously
difficult instrument to learn—because its unique sound and
appearance enchanted me.
After years of practice and hard work, I graduated from Brigham
Young University with a Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance and
a minor in editing in 2014. While at BYU, I was able to go on two
international performing tours with the BYU Wind Symphony and
Chamber Orchestra, igniting my passion for travel. I also developed
and honed my graphic design skills during my editing minor, and have
been able to do various freelance graphic design work creating brand
identities, flyers, posters, etc.
Like so many others, my life changed dramatically when COVID-19
first rocked the globe. Performance and teaching opportunities
diminished and I found myself homeschooling my five-year-old son.
Despite these changes and challenges, something excellent came from
the pandemic: I discovered SheCodes and realized that I have a new
passion and knack for coding. Since April 2021, I have been learning
HTML, CSS, and Javascript with SheCodes, participating in rigorous
workshops and building real-world projects/applications.
